Celebrating REA Anniversaries with National Co-op Week 2021

Celebrating Co-op Week with REA Anniversaries!

REAs - rural electrification associations - rural power distribution co-ops - have been around since the late 1940s, early 1950s when farmers got togethert to form cooperatives to bring power to their farms when Investor-Owned Utilities were not interested in doing so. From there, the movement grew to change the face of agriculture in the province. Today, there are thirty-two REAs in the province and they are unique in Canada only to Alberta. Twenty-three of those REAs see the value in being members of the AFREA and we celebrate their accomplishments and longevity with 65 and 70 year anniversaries. Congratulations to all! We continue to represent and advocate for your future sustainability.
