About the Tournament

The AFREA Annual Golf Tournament, affectionately known as the Federation Charity Golf Classic, stands as a testament to community, collaboration, and compassion. With a rich history spanning over several years, this cherished event has consistently rallied individuals and organizations together in support of a noble cause.

Since its inception, the tournament has been a beacon of hope for those affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS), particularly in the Alberta & Northwest Territories Division of the MS Society of Canada. What started as a modest endeavor has blossomed into an annual extravaganza that raises funds, awareness, and spirits.

Golfers and supporters from all walks of life come together at the beautiful Goose Hummock Golf Resort, not merely for a day of sport but for a shared purpose. Through registrations, sponsorships, auctions, and heartfelt donations, the tournament has amassed an impressive financial contribution. These funds have been channeled towards critical programs, education, advocacy, and support initiatives that impact rural communities where access to essential resources can be limited.

In its journey, the tournament has experienced triumphs and challenges. While the cancellation of events in 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic was disheartening, it underscored the unwavering commitment to safety and the well-being of participants and supporters. This community’s dedication, even in adversity, was evident as donations continued to pour in, demonstrating a shared resolve to make a difference.

Making An Impact On Those living with MS

As the tournament enters each new year, it does so with a renewed sense of purpose. The AFREA Annual Golf Tournament isn’t just about golf; it’s about unity. It’s about standing together as a force for good, making a tangible impact on the lives of those living with MS. It’s about celebrating milestones, like reaching the $300,000 mark in cumulative contributions, and looking ahead with a clear vision of positive change.

The Federation Charity Golf Classic isn’t just an event; it’s a testament to the power of community, generosity, and perseverance. It’s a reminder that even amidst challenges, the spirit of giving remains unbroken. As participants eagerly anticipate each tournament and its unique offerings, they’re also embracing an opportunity to make a profound difference—one swing at a time.

Join us as we tee off with purpose, swing for a cause, and continue this remarkable journey of compassion and camaraderie. Together, we can drive change, elevate lives, and work towards a future where Multiple Sclerosis is no longer a barrier to a life of possibility.

Tournament History

It’s a hot one today! The Federation Teams are out on the course raising money for the MS Society – AB &  NWT division. Approximately 142 golfers make their rounds today in the name of charity, fun, and cooperation. This is the 17th year for the Federation Charity Golf Classic co-hosted with our cooperative partner the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops. Stay tuned for updates on the total donation for this year and we should have pics to prove it!

Even though our event was cancelled due to COVID-19 requirements, donations in the amount of $23,000  were received! A big thank you to everyone who donated through our online website or redirected their registration fees to the cause instead. We cannot do this alone. Thank you!

Consider donating to this great cause what you would spend to participate in or sponsor our event. For your convenience, use this donation page link: Join Us in the Fight to End MS

Other than a few drops of rain during the early morning at the course, the day was another spectacular summer showing for the 13th Annual Federation Charity Golf Classic. The food and fun was plentiful as a full slate of 172 golfers made it through the 18-hole course. We would like to thank everyone for their participation – we are sincerely grateful for your ongoing support to this worthy cause. The 2018 event held on Thursday, August 9th boasted our typical (lucky) sunny weather and a full slate of eager golfers. As has been for the past 11 years, proceeds from the tournament go to our charity of choice, the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Canada, Alberta & Northwest Territories Division. Donations are allocated to programs and education, information, advocacy, and awareness events in rural Alberta for both community members living with the disease and their healthcare professionals. The Federation Charity Golf Classic, co-hosted with our co-op partner Federation of Gas Co-ops, is a highly anticipated and widely supported annual golf event. Thanks to our participants and sponsors we added to our accumulative total over the past 12 years – bringing it over the $300,000 mark. Thank you to everyone for their hard work and support.
